Itinerary
Your 5 day Morocco desert tour begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech. Journey through the stunning High Atlas Mountains and across the Tizi-N-Tichka Pass, with stops for panoramic views of the dramatic landscapes. Continue to the renowned Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featured in numerous films and TV series, including Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Arrive in Ouarzazate, known as “The Gate of the Desert,” for dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.
After breakfast, explore Ouarzazate, beginning with a visit to the Atlas Studios, where several renowned films were shot, and the Taourirt Kasbah, an ancient fortified mud castle. Depart towards Agdz and join the Draa Valley, the longest river in Morocco. Drive alongside the valley, taking in panoramic views of palm groves, impressive Kasbahs, and traditional Berber villages. Enjoy a free lunch in Nkob or Alnif.
Post-lunch, continue to Merzouga, passing through Rissani. Upon reaching the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, switch to camels to traverse the Sahara desert. Stop atop a large dune to witness a magical sunset. Arrive at the luxury desert camp, where traditional nomadic tents meet modern comforts. Enjoy Berber drum music and dance around the campfire under a starlit sky. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Wake up early to witness the stunning sunrise in the desert. After a leisurely breakfast, return on camels to Merzouga where your driver awaits. The day is dedicated to discovering Merzougaโs remarkable sites, including sand dunes, a wild lake, ancient mines, fossil areas, and beautiful oasesโperfect for various outdoor activities.
Start by driving off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, then meet the nomads in their handmade woven tents and enjoy traditional Berber tea. Next, head to Khamlia village to experience Gnaoua music and dance performances by residents from sub-Saharan countries like Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Enjoy a free lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, take a leisurely stroll through a palm grove and drive to see the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as Flamingos Lake. Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, depart the desert for Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Explore Rissani’s bustling souk, which comes alive on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Next, head to Erfoud to visit a workshop specializing in fossilized marble. Continue through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to the Todra Gorges. Here, the Todra River has sculpted dramatic red cliffs, creating a stunning canyon perfect for rock climbing. Enjoy free time to explore and take in the landscape.
Lunch at a local restaurant, then travel to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades. Make key stops at the โMonkey Fingersโ rock formations and a scenic viewpoint overlooking the valley. Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay in a hotel.
On the final day of your Morocco desert tour, visit Kalaa Magouna to explore the Rose Valley. This area is renowned for its annual Rose Festival in May, where you can find local rose products such as perfumes, rose water, and cosmetics.
Continue your journey, passing by various Kasbahs, including the Amridil Kasbah in the palm grove of Skoura. Arrive in Ouarzazate and enjoy free time for lunch in the town.
Next, drive through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains to return to Marrakech. Conclude the tour with a drop-off at your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech.
